Francis Bacon, a great painter, lies dying in bed. Max Porter imagines what goes through the artist's mind at the end of his life. The book builds an immersive world around Bacon's last moments from broken pieces of his life. It combines prose, poetry and voices to make a strange and compelling whole. It deals with love, loss, art and grief. The book is short and can be finished in one sitting, but rereading it can uncover different sides and new understandings.
