In the early 1980s, the Sympathizer, a Vietnamese refugee, arrives in Paris with his blood brother Bon, seeking to escape their tumultuous past through drug dealing. While no longer in physical danger, the Sympathizer finds himself both captivated and unsettled by Parisian life. He navigates intellectual circles, finding customers for his merchandise and intellectual stimulation, but also encounters unforeseen dangers of oppression, addiction, and the complex challenge of reconciling his two closest friends, whose worldviews are diametrically opposed. This suspenseful sequel to The Sympathizer is a literary thriller and a brilliant novel of ideas.
