Tabo is a Buddhist monastery complex in the northern Indian Himalayan region, founded in 996 AD. This book looks at its sculptures and paintings, which are more than one thousand years old, especially those in the main temple, the Temple of the Enlightened Gods. There, works by Indian and Western Tibetan artists together form a walk-in, horizontal mandala. The book describes the range of Western Tibetan artistic styles and gives background and research findings on a sanctuary it calls endangered. This new edition shows the temple halls in very high digital resolution.
