This book looks at the Seven Wonders of the World, which it presents as bold marks left on the planet and as tests of how far human imagination could reach. As the book tells it, only the great pyramid still stands fully. Bettany Hughes travels through ancient and modern landscapes, using recent archaeological discoveries, to ask why people wonder, why they create, and why they remember the wonders made by others. She follows the traces of the Wonders and the marks they left in history.
