The Battle for Spain

The Battle for Spain tells the story of the Spanish Civil War, which ran from 1936 to 1939. Antony Beevor follows the course of the war and looks closely at the vicious infighting on both sides. The book shows how the hopes and fears of a whole generation ended in disillusionment and despair, as a cruel war destroyed the Spanish Republic. This version is a rewrite of an earlier book, drawing on new material from Spain and from Russian, German and other archives.
