Description

Ayiti is a collection of short stories about the Haitian diaspora experience. In one, a married couple get ready to leave their homeland and look for boat passage to America. In another, a mother lets a foreign soldier lodge with her and also share her bed. A third follows a daughter conceived beside a river while her mother flees a massacre. She later builds a new life in America, yet a strange smell of blood follows her. This edition adds two stories not collected before.

Why You Should Read?

  • Explore the Haitian diaspora experience through stories that move between the clever and the haunting.
  • Follow a married couple as they prepare to leave their homeland and seek boat passage to America.
  • Meet a daughter who moves to America and is perpetually haunted by the mysterious scent of blood.
