Careers+ Book lovers

The people who work here are the heart of the shop.

We are a bookshop in Thamel, and most of our readers meet us online first. What they see there, and how they are spoken to, is what this role looks after.

We are not looking for a marketer who happens to like reading. We are looking for someone who genuinely reads and can show a book at its best. A real love of books is the thing we cannot teach you. Most of the rest, we can.

The role

Content creation

You photograph and film our books, both around Kathmandu and in the Thamel shop, and you edit and publish that work yourself. You choose where to shoot and how it should look, and you are trusted to make those decisions.

Customer handling

Readers message us asking what to read next. You reply promptly and warmly, and you recommend books you have genuinely read. You also write our captions and our recommendations.

Ecommerce operations

This overlaps with customer handling. You check where orders have got to, raise issues with whoever can resolve them, keep a record so nothing is forgotten, and make sure the customer side of the shop runs smoothly.

The perks

Staff discount on books

We ask for a genuine reader, so we make the reading affordable. You see every new arrival before it goes on the site, and everything you buy is at staff price.

Creative responsibility

You shape our reels, our captions and the way the shop sounds to a reader. Your work is your own, and it reaches readers without passing through several layers of approval.

Salary and bonus

We agree your salary on what you are able to do, and we discuss a real figure once we have seen your work. When something you have made increases sales, you receive a share of it.

Flexible working

You work from home on most days, on location when you are shooting, and at the Thamel shop once or twice a week. We care about the work rather than the hours.

Who we are looking for

  1. You have a genuinely creative eye, and you enjoy making things. This is the most important part of the role.
  2. You have a real passion for reading. You read widely and often, and you can talk about what has been published this year.
  3. You are comfortable shooting and editing on a phone, using CapCut, InShot or something similar, and you can design in Canva.
  4. You have an excellent working knowledge of generative AI tools such as ChatGPT and Gemini, and you understand how to prompt them well.
  5. You write and speak excellent English, and you are warm and natural in Nepali.
  6. You have completed +2 as a minimum. A background in literature, media or design is welcome, though your portfolio matters more to us.
  7. You live in Kathmandu, within convenient reach of Thamel.

What is the best book you have read this year, and how would you recommend it to a customer?

Please send us your CV, examples of anything you have shot, and a short answer to the question above. You may write it or record it on your phone. We read the answer before the CV. Links to an Instagram account or a folder of work are perfectly fine.

If this role is not right for you

Tell us what you would contribute, and how you would help make biblionepal a better experience for the readers who trust us. We open roles without much notice, and we look at these first.
